“Movement is the universal language of personal freedom.” — Louis Chevrolet
The allure of American classic cars hasn’t lost their luster in recent years.
Muscle cars have been plastered on posters, featured in music, and driven to the top of the box office for decades.
Time and our renaissance for restoration have made these classic cars more valuable than ever before.
We’ve chosen what we believe are the best muscle cars of all time. So sit back and start your engines!
1. 1967 Chevrolet Impala
The 1967 Chevrolet Impala’s sleek design transcends decades. It looks just as great on the road (if not more) now than it did in its release.
It’s big engine, mile-long hood, and luxurious interior speaks to the ingenuity of its design. Interest has spiked in recent years thanks to hit television show Supernatural.
Some cars just look classic, but the Chevrolet Impala is just as impressive under the hood. These cars were built to last and many owners have watched their Impalas stand the test of time.
Chevrolet continues to fill dealer lots like Win Chevrolet with long-lasting makes and models. Time may have brought new design and premium manufacturing, but nothing will pack the same punch as a classic muscle car.
2. 1967 Pontiac GTO
The 1967 Pontiac GTO was different than it’s Barracuda and Road Runner brothers in design and appeal.
While it’s just as pretty and well-built under the hood, the 1967 Pontiac GTO had its own class and versatility. In 1967 you could choose from a variety of makes and models including hardtop, convertible, and sports coupe.
Unlike previous models, the ’67 models were built better, faster, and stronger, solidifying it as one the greatest American classic cars.
3. 1968 Plymouth Road Runner Hemi
Moving into ’68, the public wanted a car that knocked the socks off of the driver. Plymouth delivered.
The 1968 Plymouth Road Runner Hemi was, and still is, a rocket on the road. Plymouth incorporated 425 horsepower Hemi V8 engine that made their car popular on the racetrack.
Plymouth knew they had American gold on their hands and took it a step further, licensing the Road Runner name for $50,000 and capitalizing on the cartoon with a horn that imitated the famed “beep, beep.”
4. 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429
One of the most valuable cars from its era, the 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 was a masterpiece inside and out.
Ford wanted a design for NASCAR and while they built their car, they developed a Hemi engine that could compete in the big leagues.
Big dreams and ingenuity led to one of the fastest and most beautiful cars of its time.
5. 1970 Plymouth Hemi ‘Cuda
Based on the Valiant, the 1970 Plymouth Hemi ‘Cuda, or simply the Barracuda was a fast-punching car that’s sought after today.
With 425 horsepower, a Hemi, and 6 or 8 cylinder engines, the 1970 Plymouth Barracuda, remains one of the most valuable muscle cars.
If you’re looking for a prize in your collection, the ‘Cuda is it!
6. 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454
The 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 was a staple of the muscle car era.
This Chevelle, as you can imagine, was FAST! Available with versions of the V8 engine, this car could reach an apex of 450 horsepower.
With no other cars coming close to its horsepower capabilities, no list is complete without the 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle.
7. 1970 Plymouth Road Runner
The Road Runner returns for our last spot. Year after year found success for Plymouth Road Runners but in 1970 they found another hotshot.
The 1970 Plymouth Road Runner emulated the fun, fast, care-free loving qualities of the ’68 models but with the additional benefit of new design and faster under-the-hood amenities.
