But life happens, and that is can be something that we often neglect, and it can lead to some serious problems. Here are five common maintenance mistakes that you should avoid.
Mistakes to Avoid
These may seem simple, but they are often forgotten and we end up paying the price for our negligence. Hopefully, by reading these you’ll remember to do them and save your money.
Riding On ‘E”
Sometimes life does happen, and you can’t get to the gas station. But you should make an effort to go because driving on an empty tank can cause serious damage to your engine.
There is debris that settles in your car tank which ends up at the bottom of your engine. If you drive on ‘E’, the debris can mix with the fuel that’s left and get into the engine. It can ultimately lead to expensive engine repairs.
Skipping Oil Changes
With exotic car rentals, you don’t usually have to worry about this because the dealership handles this. But if it is your car, skipping oil changes can be detrimental to the health of your vehicle.
Oil is needed to cool your engine and for its parts to work properly. If you skip oil changes, the oil will eventually become sludge and can damage your engine parts.
Neglecting Your Fluids
Motor oil isn’t the only fluid that needs to be checked. When topping off your oil, you should also top up the others, namely transmission and brake fluids, engine coolant, and power steering fluid.
Without these, you can cause engine deterioration and breakdown. At least with no gas, you’re stranded for a short time, but without fluids, you’re looking a getting a new car.
Not Checking Tire Pressure
Tire pressure is important for many reasons. Underinflated tires can lead to accidents if there is a tire blowout.
Also, not commonly known is that tires without proper air pressure can lead to poorer fuel efficiency. Be sure to check your tire pressure, especially in colder weather due to air contraction.
Not Inspecting Your Brakes
Aside from having no brakes being unsafe, worn down brakes can cause many issues as well. Brakes can be expensive, but if it wears down to the rotators, then it’ll cost even more.
Inspecting your brakes regularly can mitigate these risks you may take.
